Like so many other dairy goat producers, our journey began because my sons wanted to show goats in 4-H. In 1999 my boys and I began our herd with a Nubian doe named “Sissy” and a Recorded Grade Lamancha doe named “Mandy”. Soon we added another Nubian doe named “Sasha” who became our first doe to win Best In Show! We added one more LaMancha doe, “Swizzle”, that won several Grand Champions, and our life with dairy goats began.
My husband and I homeschooled our boys from very young ages and the goats became a part of our school. They cared for the goats every day, learning responsibility with a willing attitude. They were taught to be gracious winners as well as gracious losers and always had fun. Their Godly character reflects these things today.
We have made many lasting friendships through the shows and associations. Most goat people are very friendly and willing to share their knowledge and help most anyone that has a need.
When the boys started college, there were 3 permanent Champions in the herd, but they did not bear the G Bar Acres name. I had not shown much up to that point, but started competing at my first show in the spring of 2008 and at that show won 3 Grand Championships with my 2 year old LaMancha “Princess Leia”. She became the first permanent Champion with our herd name, “G Bar Acres”. At that same show, my Nubian, 4 year old "Pebbles" won her second Grand Champion. At the very next show, she won her 3rd Grand Champion, and was the second permanent champion with G Bar Acres.
I love showing the goats, and have earned a total of 7 permanent Championships with our herd name since I began showing! I am enjoying the fruits of my boys’ labor. I continue to produce quality animals that win in the show ring as well as produce milk. I promote the dairy goat industry by helping families get started in whatever capacity they may be interested.
I greatly enjoy having my daughter-in-law, Hillary, sharing my love for the goats. She takes care of them when I am needed elsewhere, and helps groom and prepare for the shows and then shows the goats as well. Her showmanship skills have contributed to our earned permanent Championships.
My husband has now retired and lends me his helping hands. I so appreciate his help in the everyday management of the herd. He has learned to love the goats, too, and usually picks 2 or 3 each season that have to stay with the herd, and he has gained quite an eye for correct dairy goats. He says he will not enter the show ring, so don’t ask! We enjoy caring for the animals together.
It is a rewarding business and I love it. I will continue to refine my bloodlines, adding bucks with the same characteristics my does have that make them so special!
I hope you enjoy my website. Please check back often as each new kidding season brings new additions, and new possibilities!
